Rafael Canogar
GRECO
‘Rafael Canogar. Greco’ is a literary and audio-visual project by Fundación Azcona in which our foundation photographed and filmed painter, sculptor and printmaker Rafael Canogar (Toledo, 1935) for five months throughout the creation of the sculptures entitled Greco I and Greco II.
From the blank page to the sketches, the model, cutting the steel sheets and welding the pieces through to the completion of Greco I (82x60x54 cm, gunmetal) and Greco II (acid-stained weathering steel, 240x157x130 cm), the not-for-sale book and the short documentary film immerse us into the work of one of the great masters of the arts, co-founder of the El Paso group and winner of the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas in 1982.
The book also features the last text written by renowned art historian and critic Tomàs Llorens, a key figure in the world of art history and museums in Spain.
