Jointly edited by the Fundación de Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino and the Azcona Foundation, this third volume of the Encyclopaedia of the Canarian artist ‘Tribute to Marinetti. Speed in the infinitive’ has been written by Pedro A. Cruz Sánchez (Murcia, 1972), a professor of Latest Trends in Art at the University of Murcia, an art critic and poet, and author of more than 40 books.

Martín Chirino created the seventeen pieces in the Homenaje a Marinetti series between 1990 and 2017. It reveals Chirino’s enduring interest in the father of futurism in the final years of his career where “the vector of velocity was introduced. Thus, the spiral takes on a new duality: between maximum repose and maximum speed. However, this speed cannot be understood objectively, but rather as an endless possibility. That’s what gives it its particular magnetism. In fact, speed does not exist; one can only be swift as an attribute. I was inspired by the futurism of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti to favour that idea that speed only exists when it is executed’.
