Guitarra n.^º 21 is the first sculpture by Pablo Serrano installed in the capital of Asturias. The piece is part of the Divertimentos con Picasso, la guitarra y el cubismo series designed by Pablo Serrano near the end of his life, between 1984 and 1985.

This series marks a radical shift in his career, moving away from his previous stylistic direction to engage in a visual reflection on the legacy of Cubism. Focusing on the guitar —which was also a central theme in Pablo Picasso’s work— Serrano develops a personal reinterpretation of one of the 20th century’s most influential artistic movements.

Pablo Serrano (1908–1985), one of the main revitalising forces in 20th-century Spanish sculpture, was a co-founder of the El Paso group and the first visual artist to receive, in 1982, the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts.
