THE FOUNDATION

Fundación Azcona’s mission includes promoting and spreading knowledge about art and culture in the broadest sense. Specifically, its aim is to support artistic creation and to foster scholarly research related to the art world.

Supporting talent, expanding cultural outreach based on principles of freedom, driving innovation, pursuing beauty and recognising genius and imagination are at the heart of the foundation.

Fundación Azcona focuses its efforts primarily on the creation of Catalogues Raisonnés of Spanish visual artists. A Catalogue Raisonné is a monograph in which an artist’s complete body of work is compiled (paintings, sculptures, prints, etc.). This process usually entails years of thorough, painstaking research. The Catalogue Raisonné is the definitive reference tool in the art world, an essential resource for historians, researchers, collectors, museums, curators, auction houses, art galleries, insurers and appraisers.

Fundación Azcona is implementing a programme that donates art to universities and institutions. These works —mainly sculptures— by renowned Spanish artists are found in prominent locations across the urban landscape.

Each year, Fundación Azcona also loans more than a hundred works of art, free of charge, to other foundations and public and private institutions for their exhibitions. The works on loan belong to the patrons’ private collections.

Fundación Azcona is a private, non-profit institution whose purposes have been recognised by the State as being in the public interest.
